Gilbert Victor is a burgeoning Nigerian activist and advocate dedicated to advancing community cohesion, inclusivity, and the health and rights of marginalized populations. A passionate voice for sexual minority rights, Gilbert hails from Anambra State, Nigeria, and holds an Ordinary National Diploma (OND) in Computer Science from the Federal Polytechnic, Nekede, Owerri-West, Imo State. His advocacy journey reflects a seamless blend of technical expertise, community engagement, and a deep commitment to social justice.

Before fully delving into activism, Gilbert built a solid foundation in the private education and technology sectors. For over seven years, he worked as a computer tutor and instructor, imparting digital skills and software application knowledge to young learners in reputable institutions such as Bright’e Computer Institute (BCI), Modern Institute of Information Technology (MIIT), and Divine Mercy International Secondary School. His experience as an educator strengthened his communication, mentoring, and leadership abilities—qualities that would later define his work in advocacy and community organizing.

Gilbert’s passion for justice and equality led him to the Mobile Foundation for Health Security and Rehabilitation (MHSR), where he has played an active role in advancing sexual health and rights advocacy across Nigeria. At MHSR, he currently serves as the Communications Officer, overseeing the organization’s Communications and Media Department. In this capacity, Gilbert is responsible for managing internal and external communications, curating digital content, and coordinating public outreach campaigns aimed at promoting inclusivity, health awareness, and social justice.

His work in communications bridges the gap between advocacy and public engagement. Gilbert leads the strategic storytelling and media visibility efforts of MHSR, ensuring that the voices, experiences, and rights of key populations are amplified both online and offline. Through thoughtful messaging, creative campaigns, and collaborative partnerships with media organizations, he contributes to reshaping public narratives around gender, sexuality, and health.

In addition to his communications work, Gilbert plays a vital role in community mobilization and education, counseling sexual minorities across Nigeria on issues of safety, health, and rights. His grassroots engagement has positioned him as a trusted advocate within key population networks, where he provides guidance, linkage to services, and peer mentorship to those at risk of health disparities and social exclusion.

Currently, Gilbert serves as the Lagos State Coordinator for the Nigeria Key Population Health and Rights Network, where he continues to demonstrate unwavering commitment to advancing the well-being of vulnerable communities. In this leadership role, he coordinates advocacy initiatives, facilitates collaboration among stakeholders, and strengthens grassroots structures to ensure that interventions are inclusive and sustainable.

Beyond advocacy, Gilbert has also contributed to community protection and justice initiatives. He has worked as a private investigator, collaborating with the Nigerian Military Forces to bring individuals involved in molestation, kidnapping, extortion, and rape to justice. This work underscores his deep sense of duty toward safeguarding human rights and ensuring that perpetrators of violence and abuse are held accountable.

Gilbert’s multifaceted work reflects his holistic approach to social impact—combining activism, education, digital communication, and community defense.
